Choosing the Right Bike for You

It can seem very hard to find a new bike when you have so many choices. Finding their next bike is hard for even those folks who are paid to ride. The truth is that there are a lot of things to think about when buying a bicycle. You need to think about safety, comfort, what the bike will be used for, how often the bicycle will be used, where the bicycle will be used and, if we’re being honest: style. Keeping on top of all the new ideas coming out with bicycling, as well as choosing between the old options, makes choosing a bike hard. Here are some of the criteria you should use when you are buying your next cycling bicycle.

One of the major parts of choosing the right cycling bicycle for you is making sure that the bicycle is the right size. To accomplish this you need know your inseam measurement. Simply measure the distance from your groin to the bottom of your foot, down the inside of your leg. The goal is to be able to sit on the seat of the bike and still rest your feet flat on the ground. If you can do this you need not worry about stopping in an emergency if your brakes malfunction.

For a road bike you should take away 9" from the inseam measurement you took earlier. This is due to the type of tires you will be using for a road bike. These tires will be thinner why not find out more and designed for efficiency on concrete roads or pavements. If you are looking for a mountain bike, you will want to subtract about a foot (twelve inches) from your inseam measurement. Again this is to account for the type of tires you will be using. You will find them to be much bigger and designed to handle rocky terrain. You can always use a mountain bike for city cycling, although this is not how they are best used.

You should already have your safety gear bought and ready to go. Bicycle helmets are something completely different than they once were. Not only do they look a lot better than they used to, they are also built better to provide greater protection. You should never, ever ride your bicycle unless you are wearing your helmet. You never know when that little detail is going to save you from an early grave.

It wouldn't hurt to also grab some elbow and knee guards, as well as ankle and wrist guards, just in case you decide to take your bike off the road. If you plan to use your bike as a sole means of transportation, buy yourself some pants clips. These things are little clips that clip the pants leg up so they don't get tangled in the chain or the gears.

When looking for a bike your main goal is to find one that suits you physically. This is the most important thing to consider when looking into using a bike to get around. Safety is important when on a bike but do not overlook comfort, otherwise those long rides will soon grow tiresome.
